Ada Alberta Willoughby Cook – Obituary

Ada Alberta Willoughby Cook, age 91, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Sept. 25, in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Ada was born in Erwin, Tennessee the daughter of Pleasant Lionel Willoughby and Roxie Mae Foster. A long-term resident of Huntsville and Rogersville, Ada lived the last years of her life in North Little Rock to be closer to her family.

Ada was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, William H. (Billy) Cook, and her brother, Paul Willoughby.

She is survived by her sister, Thelma Ward; two sons, Glenn Cook and Dennis Cook; her daughters, Janice Dean, Jane Tidwell, and Nancy Linsey; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends. Ada loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and always sent reminders of her love through the mail with cards, letters, and trinkets.

For over 20 years Ada served as a Girl Scout Brownie Troop Leader in Huntsville where she held meetings and events in her home. Ada loved to sing and was a member of church choirs at Holmes Street United Methodist Church (Huntsville), Rogersville United Methodist Church, and Florence First United Methodist Church. As a devoted, faithful and lifelong Methodist, Ada served as a district president for the United Methodist Women in North Alabama. Ada and her husband Billy sponsored many adults on Emmaus Christian Walks year after year throughout North Alabama. Ada Cook was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her!

You may visit with the family at Valhalla Funeral Home in Huntsville on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, from noon until 2 p.m. A funeral service conducted by Reverend Robert Lancaster (UMC Rogersville) and Reverend Brandon Lazarre (UMC Pell City) will commence at 2 p.m. in Valhalla’s Chapel. The interment will immediately follow in the Gethsemane section of Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rogersville UMC and designated for either UM Women or for Emmaus.
