FLORENCE – The man who is accused of brutally slaying a beloved Tuscumbia volunteer football coach today had his first, in what will surely be a marathon, court appearance. Jeremy LeShaun Williams, of 117 East Hawthorne Street, Florence went before District Judge Carol Coil Medley to have the formal charges of 1st Degree Murder presented to him.
As of this writing, Williams is expected to be held at the Florence/Lauderdale Detention Center without bail. He has been accused [n the death of Brioni Jamaal Rutland, 27, of Tuscumbia. Police say that Williams, after murdering Rutland, bound the victim’s legs with concrete blocks… transported his body to the Old Railroad Bridge… and threw it into the Tennessee River on Thanksgiving Day.
