Mattie Charlene Anderson, age 94, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026 at the home of her granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 1pm Thursday, May 14th, in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Eric Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Robert White, Justin Anderson, Logan Head, Greyson Moss, Lake Head, Eric Rowland, Mason Rowland and Tate Rowland serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin White and Matthew White.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Wednesday, May 13th and again from 11am until time of the service at 1pm Thursday, May 14th, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Anderson was born December 7, 1931, in Joelton, TN, to the late Thomas Alex Carney, and the late Iva Love Anderson Carney. She was a homemaker most of her life and was the oldest living member of Heads Freewill Baptist Church. She was Nannie to everyone who knew her. You could almost always find her in the gym, proudly cheering on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Anderson loved her family deeply, and her faith in Jesus, her church and community, were at the center of her life. Her love, encouragement, and steady presence touched so many and will always be remembered.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carr Anderson; daughter, Donna Gayle White; granddaughter, April Gale Anderson; brothers, Elmo Carney, Max Elmer Carney and Thomas Ray Carney; and sisters, Joyce Hicks and Doris Jean Anderson.
She is survived by her son, Robert Dale (Donna) Anderson; 5 grandchildren, Robert Wayne (Carolyn) White, Christina Moss, Justin Anderson, Jada Head and Jenna (Eric) Rowland; 12 great grandchildren, Nicole, Matthew, Kayla (John), Greyson, Ireland, Ivy, Logan (Kaylee), Reese, Lake, Mason, Tate and Oakley; 5 great great grandchildren; brother, Charles Carney; and a sister, Billie Magill.
