Funeral Services for Jesse O. Smith, age 81 of Delta, will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Delta Baptist Church beginning at 3:00 PM. Bro. Clay Lovelady and Bro. Richie Farrow will be officiating and burial will follow at Delta Community Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Delta and a graduate of Lineville High School. He worked for JC Penny and Coca-Cola for several years before going to the Anniston Army Depot. He worked primarily in the Ammunitions Department, Shipping and Receiving, and lastly served in security until he retired. Following his retirement, he became self-employed and began doing home remodeling and construction. Mr. Smith also worked with the Clay Baptist Association to build over 20 handicapped ramps for those in need. His hobbies included: riding and racing motorcycles with his son, rebuilding car and motorcycle engines, and was a wonderful artist and craftsman. He was a member of the Delta Catfish Club, enjoyed traveling with his family to go fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Delta Baptist Church.
He was survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn Smith; son, Rusty Smith (Beth) of Ashland; three grandchildren, Hunter, Amber and Holly; four grandchild, Knox, Danleigh, Hudson and Emerson; sister, Bonnie Wheeles(John Robert) of Ashland; sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith of Lineville; brother, Van Smith (Judy) of Pell City; and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Orn Smith and Clara Sprayberry Smith; daughter, Sandy Smith; two sisters, Annie Smith and Virginia Rose Smith; two brothers, Jack Smith and John Smith.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffrey Smith, John Smith, Christopher Smith, Danny Midgette, Howard Williamson, Mitch Morgan, Danny Braswell and John McDonald. Honorary pallbearers are the Delta Baptist Church Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
His visitation will take place on Tuesday before the funeral at Delta Baptist Church from 1:30 until 3:00.
