James Robert Motes, age 55, of the Crossville Community, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 3:00pm from the Otts Funeral Home Chapel followed by a private spreading of his ashes at his favorite fishing spot. Bro. Jonathan Oakes to officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home prior to the funeral services from 2:00pm until 3:00pm.
Robert was born on March 19, 1971 in Guin, AL to Sarah and the late R.C. Motes. He was a 1989 graduate of Lamar County High School, afterwards pursuing a lengthy career as a welder. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman, always enjoying the outdoors.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, R.C. Motes and wife, Tracy (Trentham) Motes. He is survived by his Mother, Sarah (Yerby) Motes, 3 sons, Garrett of Hodges, AL, Chase of Vernon, AL, and J.T. of Red Bay, AL; 2 grandsons, Logan and Gabriel and soon to arrive granddaughter, Saydee; Sister, Patricia (Brent) Trentham of Aberdeen, MS; Nephew, Tray (Alyssa) Trentham of West Virginia and Niece, Brettney Trentham of Aberdeen, MS; and a host of great nieces and nephews, Leathel, Ramsey, Danaven, Eliana, and Hazel Grace.
