James Everett Vann, age 83, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He was born on February 24, 1943, to the late John and Annie Burton Vann. James took great pride in being an amateur ham radio operator, known by his call sign KA4MHJ. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and also a devoted member of Spencer First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children; Mary Lillian Chandler Vann, infant daughter; Mary Christine Vann, brothers; Paul Vann, and Tommy Vann.

James is survived by his loving family, wife; Louise Lawson Vann, son; Michael (Jennifer) Vann, daughter, Dana Allison Corvin, brothers; Bennie Vann, Morris Vann, grandchildren; Landon Ryan Vann, Caleb Corvin, Christina Corvin, Brandon Vann, Amanda Vann, great-grandchildren; McKenzie Vann, Carter Vann, Daxton Jordan. Several nieces, nephews, and large extended family also survive.

Funeral Services for Mr. James Vann will be held on Wednesday April 22, 2026, at 2:00pm in the Layne Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Nathan Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Town Cemetery. Visitation times are Tuesday April 21, 2026, from 4:00pm-8:00pm and Wednesday April 22, 2026, from 10:00am until the time of service at 2:00pm.
