DECATUR-The Historic Decatur Association invites the community to its free annual Garden Tour on Sunday, May 17, 2026, celebrating the charm, beauty, and character of Decatur’s oldest and treasured neighborhoods.
This beloved spring tradition offers visitors a chance to stroll through a curated selection of private gardens, each
showcasing a unique blend of historic architecture, seasonal plantings, and personal creativity. From established landscapes to hidden backyard retreats and porch container gardens, the tour highlights the spirit of Historic Decatur.
“This tour is really about community,” said Darcy Hopkins with the Historic Decatur Association. “It’s neighbors opening their gates, sharing what they’ve grown, and inviting others to experience the beauty of this neighborhood in a very personal way.”
The tour is free and open to the public, with headquarters located at St. John’s Episcopal Church, in Decatur, AL where visitors can pick up maps and enjoy light refreshments before beginning their self-guided walk through the neighborhoods.
In addition to showcasing local gardens, the event reflects a broader appreciation for historic preservation, sustainable gardening practices, and the importance of native plants and pollinators in residential landscapes.
The Historic Decatur Association welcomes volunteers and community participation to help make this event a success.
Join us for a Sunday stroll and discover the beauty growing in Historic Decatur.
