Tommy Ray Phillips  It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tommy Ray Phillips, a devoted brother, uncle and friend. A lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide. Fall Saturdays were spent in front of the television cheering on his team win or lose. Outside of football season, Tommy found the greatest joy outdoors. Whether squirrel hunting or casting a line, hunting and fishing were his passions. Even though he never had children of his own, he was a devoted father figure, protector and provider to his nieces. If he wasn’t in the woods or on a river bank, he was sitting in the car line at school either picking up or dropping off a niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Magdalene Phillips; his sister, Becky Powell and his niece, Heather Phillips.
Survivors include his siblings, Irene Davenport, Charles “Shot” Phillips (Barbara Ann), Linda Stacks (Ronald), David Phillips, Teresa Bland (David) and Terry Phillips (Renee), nieces and nephews, Brandy Walker (David), Amy Jones (Jason), Mollie Freeman, Gerald Davenport, Jullie Russell, Andy Powell and Jeffery Bland, special great-niece, Kenlie Shanks, several other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday April 8, 26 at 2:00 pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. Rev. Terry Murphree will officiate. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Wednesday from 1-2 pm.
