Lester Marion Ross, Sr, 93 of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on April 1, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was born in Elmore County, Alabama to Wilbur Hill Ross and Emma Terrell Ross on February 4, 1933. He graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, Montgomery Alabama in 1949, served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. Ross went on to earn his baccalaureate degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa Alabama, and his Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. He was employed by RCA in Ithaca, New York and then moved back to the Huntsville area in 1959 where he was employed at the Army Missile Command on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama for many years and guided his team in the development of the Hellfire Missile system.

Lester is survived by his three children, Lester M. Ross, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama, Lynn Moore (Eddie) of Hamilton, Texas, and Leigh Anne Crosby (Brad) of Bainbridge, Georgia; three grandchildren, William Brent McFatter (Christine), Darren Gregory McFatter (Jennifer), Nicholas Austin Stoudt; and great-grandson, William Maximos McFatter.

A private Celebration of Life event will be held in honor of Lester on a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 600 Governors Drive SW, Huntsville, Alabama 35801, where Lester was a member for more than five decades.
