Deborah Simpson Norton, of Florence, was born on January 8, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana, to Noble and Dorothy Simpson.
She graduated from Coffee High School in 1971 and later earned her degree from the University of North Alabama in 1975. In 1982, she completed her MBA at UNA. Debbie dedicated 30 years of her career to TVA, working in Knoxville, Browns Ferry, and Muscle Shoals, with much of that time spent serving as a manager in Human Resources.
More than anything, Debbie loved people. She had a natural way of making others feel welcome, cared for, and appreciated. Whether through her work at TVA, her time at Belk after retirement, her volunteer efforts, her involvement with the TVA Retirees Association, or simply in the everyday joy of being with family and friends, Debbie shared warmth and kindness wherever she went. Her life was marked by meaningful friendships and deep connections with those she loved.
Debbie also enjoyed traveling and experiencing the beauty of new places. Among her many travels, she especially treasured visits to Hawaii, Greece, Italy, and Key West, Florida. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church and faithfully attended Edgemont United Methodist Church, where her faith remained a steady and important part of her life.
After a short illness, Debbie entered the gates of Heaven on March 7, 2026. Her funeral was held at Elkins Funeral Home in Florence the following Monday and was officiated by Pastor Dean Bowers and Dr. John Yeates of Edgemont. Burial followed in Florence Cemetery.
She is survived by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Chaya Norton; her precious grandchildren, whom she adored; her cousin, Joy Howard; her former husband, Dennis Norton; and her special friend, Gerald Newbern.
Special thanks to pallbearers Dennis Norton, Stan Whitehurst, Morris Bradford, Charles Frederick, Benjamin Newbern, and Joshua Newbern.
Debbie will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a blessing.
