DECATUR  – On March 27, TVA’s Browns Ferry Unit 3 was successfully synced to the grid following its scheduled refueling and maintenance outage.  The Browns Ferry team completed thousands of activities during the outage that prepares the unit for a two-year cycle of operation supplying the Tennessee Valley with safe, affordable and reliable energy.

“Thanks to the expertise and support from the entire organization and from our contracting partners, the Browns Ferry team safely completed thousands of activities during this outage,” said Browns Ferry Site Vice President Daniel Komm.  “We prepared for this work and executed it as planned to meet our commitment to the Valley. Unit 3 is now positioned to continue providing our customers with safe, affordable and reliable power.”

In addition to numerous refurbishments and equipment inspections, the team replaced the unit’s 425,000-pound generator rotor to strengthen performance and replenished the reactor with more than 300 fuel bundles to support the continued operation Unit 3 through its next operating cycle.

Browns Ferry Unit 3 is one of three nuclear reactors located at Browns Ferry and one of seven nuclear reactors owned and operated by TVA to generate low-cost energy to the people of the Valley. TVA’s nuclear fleet is the third largest in the nation, safely and reliably providing about 40 percent of all electricity used by nearly 10 million people in the Tennessee Valley.
