Sherry Hinkle McElyea, 73, of Athens, passed away on Thursday, January 29th, 2026, at her residence. Mrs. McElyea was born on July 29th, 1952, in Athens, Alabama, to Stanley and Dorothy (Sulcer) Hinkle.
Mrs. McElyea is survived by her husband, Dale McElyea; daughter, Holly Hargrove (Brandon); son, Cory McElyea (Sabrina); granddaughters, Gracyn Hargrove Pugh (Jordan), Kinley Hargrove, and Allie McElyea; grandsons, Ian Hargrove (Emily Simon) and Luke McElyea; great-grandsons, Walker Pugh and Cohen Pugh; sister, Patsy Ennis (Jim); brother, Mickey Hinkle (Robyn); and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Dorothy Hinkle.
Funeral services for Mrs. McElyea will be February 1st, 2026, at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home, at 2:00 p.m., with Kasey Harbin and Mike Pressnell officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m., at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ian Hargrove, Brian Lynn, Luke McElyea, Jordan Pugh, Chad Ennis, and Will Reaves. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery.
