Gary “Dennis” Childress, age 72, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on January 21, 2026, at UAB Medical Center.
Dennis was born on September 2, 1953, to the late S.J. Childress and Louise Childress. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing basketball and was a proud graduate of Albertville High School, Class of 1971.
Dennis was a dedicated cattleman, cattle buyer, and stockyard owner, and those who knew him understood that his world truly revolved around cattle. His strong work ethic, knowledge of the industry, and commitment to the land defined both his career and his character.
He is survived by his children, Erin Childress Panos (Brian) and Robert “Clay” Childress; his grandchildren, Brewer and Betsy Brunson; his brothers, Allen Childress (Patty) and Rickey Childress (Kim); his special cousin, Denny Childress; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Mt. High Missionary Baptist Church, with Bro. Reggie Burns and Bro. Roy Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
