James “Tony” Powell, age 66, of Decatur, entered the gates of Heaven on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Tony was born in Decatur, Alabama, on December 30, 1959, to James Horace Powell and Becky Jones Powell.
Tony was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed all sports. His favorite pastime was watching sports, spending time with his grandchildren, or being with his son. He worked for the City of Decatur as an electrical inspector for 26 years and was a faithful member of 16th Avenue Baptist Church.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory with his wife of 39 years, Kim Powell; his son, Aaron (Amber) Powell; his beloved granddaughters, Iyla Kay and Charlie Mae Powell; his brother, Glenn (Melissa) Powell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Tommy Smothers officiating. Tony will be laid to rest in Midway Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nick Anderson, Irving Vera, Michael Powell, Tim Helms, Tyler Vinson, and Randy Lee
