Barbara Ann Gipson Stewart, 85, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025. She was born on November 19, 1940, to Ernest C. and Delphia Tims Gipson in Sewanee, Tennessee. A woman of faith and member of Oaklawn Baptist Church, Barbara trusted in the Lord throughout her life and now rejoices in His presence. Barbara was a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her faith guided her daily life and was reflected in the love, compassion, and quiet strength she showed to her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her children: Jerry Stewart (Teresa), Melissa Ogle, Melany Gardner (Jeff), and Kerry Stewart (Kristi). She was a proud grandmother to nine grandchildren: Megan McDade (Mark), Josh Stewart (Kelsea), Lindsey Ogle, Lauren Collins (Kyle), Matt Ogle, Chase Gardner, Kaylee Hensley (Conner), Kelsi Haynes (Zack), and Kendall Stewart. Barbara was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren: Skylar Short, Sadie Stewart, Kora Stewart, Slayton Stewart, Lexi Collins, Carter Hensley, Caleb Hensley, Sterling Haynes, Samuel Haynes, and Silas Haynes. She is also survived by her sister, Ernestine Biddle, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Earl Stewart; her parents, Ernest and Delphia Gipson; and her sisters, Ruth (Walter) Webb, Francis Ray (Bennie), and Elizabeth Gipson.
While her family mourns her passing, they take comfort in knowing that Barbara is now at peace in the presence of her Lord. Her life of faith and quiet devotion leaves a lasting legacy, and her love will continue to guide and comfort those she leaves behind until they are reunited again.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:00 am from the chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Mayes and Bro. Ray Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Gardens with Josh Stewart, Kendall Stewart, Chase Gardner, Skylar Short, Mark McDade, and Conner Hensley all serving as pallbearers.
