George Warren Sumrall, 77, of Huntsville, Alabama completed his earthly journey and went home to be with the Lord on December 19th, 2025.
George was born on September 14, 1948, in Morton, Mississippi to James Lee and Helon Gunn Sumrall. He was a 1968 graduate of Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi. As a member of the football team, he earned All-State and All Big-8 Honors as well as being selected the Youth for Christ Christian Athlete of the Year. He attended Hinds Community College where he served as Student Body President and was a member of the football team. He then continued his education and football career at Southeastern Louisiana University where he was recognized as the 1971-72 FCA Christian Athlete of the Year.
George was a faithful member of Willowbrook Baptist Church and served Huntsville youth through volunteering over the years with Huntsville Eagles Football, Whitesburg Middle School Football, Grissom High School Football, Fellowship of Chrisitan Athletes and most proudly the Jon Sumrall Youth football camp.
George considered it an honor to serve much of his career with the United States Department of the Army as a civilian.
George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Massey Sumrall; sons, Joseph Warren Sumrall (Sally), Jonathan Edward Sumrall (Ginny); grandchildren, Sam, Sadie, Will, Stella and Selah; and sister, Jenny Sumrall Graves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Houston Sumrall and sister, Diane Sumrall Lifer.
Visitation will be held at Laughlin Service Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 23 from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.
Throughout his life, George had a steadfast love for God’s Word and a heart to see every young person know their Heavenly Father in order to reach their full potential.
