Ernest Thomas Simpson, Jr. of Lacey’s Spring in the Union Hill community passed away on December 9, 2025 at the age of 79.
Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Diann Simpson; his sisters, Gloria Brown and Leta Brooks; his sister-in-law, Brenda Blankenship and Rhonda King; brothers-in-law, Myron, Chris and Billy Joe McClain; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ernest lived his life in the Union Hill community and graduated from Union Hill High School. He and his wife faithfully attended New Canaan Baptist Church at Union Hill. Ernest retired from Atrion in Arab, Alabama. He was a member of the Union Grove Masonic Lodge. He was a huge supporter of Alabama football and loved spending time visiting friends and fellowshipping at the Union Hill Senior Center.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents; Ernest Thomas Simpson, Sr and Ruth Catherine Simpson, and his sister; Carol Maxwell.
Funeral service for Ernest will be at New Canaan Baptist Church on Saturday, December 13, 2025. Brother Robert Cruise will be officiating with music by Kristy Oldacre. The family will receive friends and guests for a visitation between the hours of 1:00 and 2:00pm. The funeral service will begin at 2:00pm. Burial will be in the New Canaan Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers and escorting Ernest to his final resting place in New Canaan Church Cemetery are Ricky Lenox, Dock Abercrombie, Max Malone, Jeff King, Ken Swords, Chris Holeman. Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
