Emma Jean Nelms, age 88, from Athens died Thursday, October 23, 2025. She was born November 3, 1936 in Limestone County, Alabama to Edgar Lamar and Lizzie Lena Stein Lamar. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tanner Church of Christ for seventy-three years. Funeral Services will be at the Spry Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th officiated by Robert Hall, Mark Little, and Jase Rager. Pallbearers will be Jamie Nelms, Jason Nelms, Chris Rager, Justin Rager, Ethan Presley, and Thomas Haggermaker. There will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. at Spry Funeral Home. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery following services.
She is survived by her daughters, Angie Wood (Mark) of Killen, Lee Ann Presley (April) of Madison, grandchildren, Jamie Nelms, Jason Nelms, Crystal Hewlett, Lori Watson, Chris Rager, Justin Rager, and Ethan Presley, thirteen great grandchildren, six great great-grandchildren, sisters, Anna Mae Smith of Athens, and Jenny Peck of Killen as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lena Lamar, her husband, Robert Nelms, son, James Nelms, and siblings, Jeanette Glover, Paulie Lamar, Willodean Tucker, Nell Allen, and Reausaw Lamar.
