  David Thomas Gilliam, M.D., passed away on October. 20, 2025, in Bloomington, Indiana.  He was born in Mayfield, Kentucky January 5, 1947. He was the son of the late John and Helen Gilliam. David graduated from Benton High School in Benton, Kentucky, then from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity (Pike).

 

David graduated from the University of Louisville Medical School, then completed residencies at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Vanderbilt University Hospital, along with a fellowship at the University of Cincinnati.  He enjoyed a successful career spanning 50 years, as a psychiatrist, certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

 

David was an accomplished pilot and enjoyed flying his family to their favorite destinations.  He enjoyed building race cars, riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing, boating, and all things outdoors.

 

David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Rita Kerr Gilliam, and their sons, Grant Thomas Gilliam and Kip Gilliam.  A memorial will be held at Spry Funeral Home on November 8, 2025, at 2 p.m.  Please consider making a donation in David’s honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
