James Roland “J.R.” Head, Sr., age 98, of Greenbrier, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2pm Thursday, September 18th, in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield, with Bro. Michael Smithh officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Head was born January 4, 1927, in Robertson County, to the late Vollie Richard Head, and the late Eva Mae Choate Head. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during WWII, and was stationed in France and all over Europe. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and loved gospel singing, dancing and working out at the gym. Mr. Head retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Head was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Judy Stanley Head; son, Terry Lee Head; brothers, Richard M. Head, Billy Walter Head, Dorris Leonard Head, and Bobby Lawrence Head; and sisters, JoAnn Head, Judith Nell Head, Edna Ruth Graves, and an infant sister, Dosha Ann Head.
He is survived by sons, James R. (Donna) Head, Jr., and Stephen Thomas (Julie) Head; daughter, Patricia Ann (Joe) Baugh; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your local VFW in is honor.
