Cathy Russell Cathy Russell of Sardis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, at the age of 73. Born November 10, 1951, in Lexington, Tennessee, she was the beloved daughter of the late Homer and Hessie Russell. The Family will greet guests Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 at Pafford Funeral Home in Lexington. Graveside services will follow at 2 PM at Antioch Cemetery.

Cathy began working at local sewing factories at the young age of 15 and dedicated many years to her craft. She later retired from Johnson Control. Known for her strong work ethic and quiet strength, Cathy was admired by many who worked alongside her throughout her life.

She was formerly married to James Spence and lovingly stepped into the role of mother to his two sons, Elmer Spence of Lexington, TN, and Jeffery Spence (Shelia) of Buchanan, TN. While she did not have children of her own, Cathy had a heart big enough for many — she was a mother figure to countless children over the years. She never met a child she didn’t love, and her warmth, kindness, and care left a lasting impression on every young life she touched.

Cathy was the last surviving daughter of her family and was preceded in death by her sisters: Shirley Maness, Linda Russell, Dale Nichols, and Billie Garner.

She is survived by her two step sons; her step grandchildren, Bryant Spence, Brokklyn Briggs (Charles), and Andrea Boyd; step great grandchildren, Caydence Spence, Rae-lyn Briggs, Rylee Boyd, William Boyd, and Felecity Boyd; her nieces and nephews: Suzi Hardin of Sardis; Nancy Roberts of Kentucky; Rita DeYoung of Idaho; Melissa Scott and Tiffany McAdams, both of Lexington, TN. She also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews: Jerry Hardin, Jessica Underwood, Amanda DeYoung, Justin Roberts, Trent DeYoung, Kayla Dotson, and one great-great-nephew, Brandon Hardin.

Cathy’s life was a testament to quiet compassion, steady love, and unselfish care for others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
