Roger Dale Gentry, a resident of Athens, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at Athens Limestone Hospital. Born on January 15, 1955, in Tuscumbia, Alabama, Roger was the son of the late Billy R.C. Gentry and Maxine Henry Gentry.
Roger is survived by the love of his life of 47 years, Katherine Gentry. He is also survived by his daughter, Melissa Ferrer and her husband Santos; his son, Brian Gentry and his wife Jessica; and his treasured grandchildren, Andrew Cutler, Derek Cutler, Tyler Gentry, Adalyn Gentry, Yasan Ferrer, and Sanyira Ferrer; his siblings: Randell Gentry and his wife Jan, Diane Beck, Donna Warren, and Ricky Gentry and his wife Michelle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and sister Debbie Gentry.
Friends and family are invited to honor Roger’s life at a visitation on Friday, August 8, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home. A funeral service, officiated by Steve Bowers, will follow at 2:00 PM. Paying tribute to Roger’s life, pallbearers Josh Mason, Bo Barkley, Patluke Ragucci, Kendall Beck, Ryan Gentry, Kody Beck, and Stefan Bowers will accompany him to his final resting place at Thatch-Mann Cemetery.
Roger lived a vibrant life full of joy and enthusiasm. He was a Christian and loved the Lord. He was a man who never met a stranger. His passions included fishing, hunting, playing the guitar, singing, and celebrating life through music. Roger was known for being the life of the party. A proud patriot, Roger served his country in the US Army. His absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. Roger Dale Gentry’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends, a testament to a life lived with love, laughter, and unwavering kindness.
