Mr. Melvin Phillips, 95 of Dora, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 29, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM in the New Horizon Chapel, Friday, August 1, 2025, with Bro. Ted Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before service time. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery.
Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by his parents Jeffie and Estelle Phillips, son Marlon Phillips, wives Lucille Phillips and Autress Phillips, two brothers and four sisters. He is survived by a daughter Kathy Melvirene (Roger) Henry, son Ronald (Carla) Merkel, four grandchildren Jason (Cassie) Tolbert, Mandy (Scott) Hayes, Todd (Crystal) Merkel, Alyssa Merkel, five great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.
Mr. Phillips was a Korean War Veteran while serving on the front lines as a cook in the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Phillips was proud to serve his country. He loved to fish, go to Gospel Singings and tend to his flower gardens in his spare time.
