Mary “Poodle Lady” Sue Koontz, age 79, of Florence, passed away on July 13, 2025. There will be a Memorial visitation from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club on Friday, July 18, 2025. Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Stewart, as well as her brother, James Stewart.

Sue is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jerry Koontz; one son, Stewart Koontz; one daughter, Lisa Waters (Brandon); one sister, Beth Kennedy; and two grandsons, Andrew and Alex Waters. She is also survived by her four K-9 companions, AJ, Jazzy, Bassman, and Rosie.

Sue was an avid tennis and bridge player, a voracious reader who could consume up to a book a day, and a proud member of the Chapeaux.

Sue was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Florence. She was, in years past, an endurance horse racer. She loved the many horses she had over the years. She was also known as the “Poodle Lady.” She was a breeder of standard poodles and very selective about who qualified to be blessed with a poodle. It would be safe to say that if you know anyone in the area who has a standard poodle, it probably came from Sue.
