Notice for Juanita  Hurd  Juanita Hurd, 82, passed away June 25, 2025, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS. She was born April 7, 1943, to the late Mary Lou and Earnest Jones in Ridgley, TN.  Over the span of more than 40 years, she dedicated her life to caring for countless children in her home. She was affectionately known as ‘Grandmother,’ ‘G-Momma,’ and ‘Nene’ by both adults and children alike.  She loved decorating her home for Christmas and was a passionate Ole Miss fan. She would proudly greet anyone with a loud “Hotty Toddy”.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Mark Spradling officiating. Burial will be in the Stephens Cemetery.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Marcy (Danny) of Eggville, her son Brian Hurd-Servin (Jason), of Irvine, CA, one sister, Sandra Reynolds (Wigg), and her sister-in-law, Janice Whitmon, both of Mantachie, 8 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren, 6 Great-Great-Grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Hurd; her son, Steve Hurd; and her brother, Paul Johnson.

 

Pallbearers will be David Reynolds, David Wallace, Chris Johnson, Darren Johnson, Jeff Dill, Ronnie Johnson, and Troy Thornton.

 

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 26, and from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.

 

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Tammy McCollum and the staff of Charleston Place Assisted Living in Fulton, and to the team at Sanctuary Hospice for the exceptional care that they gave to “Grandmother.”
