Karen Sue Ward, age 73, of Florence, AL, passed away on June 22, 2025.
Karen was loved by so many. Exceptionally intelligent, she had a lifelong passion for math, science, and learning. A 1970 graduate of Central High School, where she was a proud band member. She earned a bachelor’s degree from UNA with a double major in Chemistry and Biology and a minor in German, followed by a master’s in Public Health from UAB.
She spent her career as an industrial hygienist and later a consultant, working all across the U.S. and even Puerto Rico. She was deeply passionate about protecting the planet and the people in it.
Karen was a devoted member of Cross Point COC and proudly served on a mission trip to Guatemala — an experience that left a lasting impact on both her and those she served.
Above all, Karen loved her family and her faith. She adored “her girls” —Celeste, Brittan, Palace and Madelyn and took great pride in the generations she helped raise and memories made with them throughout her lifetime.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.R. and Mary Frances Ward, and her daughter, Celeste Kay Wills.
She is survived by her sister, Kathy Jane Linzey (Tara); brother, James Keith Ward (Waverly); granddaughters, Brittan Scott and Palace Cole; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Kay Rodriguez, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Renaissance Assisted Living, Mitchell-Hollingsworth, and Preferred Hospice for their compassionate care.
Service will be held at Cross Point COC (Adult Center) on Saturday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. Guests are invited to wear purple in her honor.
