Jerry Griggs, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Born on August 12, 1936, in Spring Creek, TN, he was the son of Thomas Frank and Ruby Sikes Griggs, who preceded him in death.
Jerry’s dedication to service was evident throughout his life. He graduated from Northside High School in 1955 and furthered his education at the Continental School of Insurance, where he developed a passion for the insurance industry. His career began at First National Bank, but he soon found his calling managing Caldwell & Hicks Insurance Agency starting in 1964. In 1990, he transitioned it to the Jackson Insurance Agency, where he continued to work until his retirement in 2007.
With a strong commitment to serving others, Jerry was known for being positive, helpful, joyful, and encouraging. He carried these values into his personal life, where he was not only a proud Deacon and Sunday school teacher but also the longest serving member of North Jackson Baptist Church. Jerry’s deep Christian faith guided him in all aspects of his life, reflecting his belief in caring for others more than himself.
In addition to his professional work, Jerry was actively involved in the West Tennessee Antique Car Club, where he served as President and Chairman of the Car Show. His leadership extended beyond the club to significant roles in the community, including the Heart Association, two terms as President of Insurors of Jackson and a position on the Board of Directors of Insurors of Tennessee. Additionally, he was honored to serve as the Exalted Ruler of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #192 of Jackson where he was a member for 65 years and was a valued partner and Board member of Arrington Funeral Directors.
He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 70 years, Carlise Helm Griggs; his children, Kenny Griggs (Cyndie) and Lynn Griffis (Phil); both of Jackson, TN and his cherished grandchildren, Tricia Burton (Cuthbert) P.J. Griffis, Jessica Griggs Holder (Brian), Jacob Griggs (Stephanie) and great grandchild Madie Holder. He is further survived by his sister, Judy (Bruce) and niece, Debra Barnhill Lindkvist.
Though preceded in death by his nephew, Dennis Barnhill, Jerry’s legacy continues through the many beloved family members and friends who were blessed to know him. He also took great joy in being a great-grandfather to Ryker Burton.
SERVICES: Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at 2:00PM at North Jackson Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Latch, Rev. Bryant Newell and Jeff Wall officiating. Burial will follow at Browns Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends Friday from 12:00PM until service time at 2:00PM at the church.
