Mary Lillian Burton, age 80, of Petersburg, TN, passed away on May 19, 2025. She was born in Lynchburg, TN on June 17, 1944, to loving parents, the late Lester and Cleo Jones Burton.

Mary spent her early years in Fayetteville attending Robert E Lee School and Central High School, working at Marrs Bar BQ and Lincoln County Hospital before beginning a journey with her late husband Jackie Wayne Burton to Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Kodiak, Alaska before settling back in Lincoln County in December 1985.

Mrs. Burton was an active member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and the Mimosa FCE Club, and she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, getting together with the 1962 classmates for lunch each month and football – especially the Florida Gators.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin Burton and Houston Burton. Survivors include her daughters, Kim Burton, Kristy Moorehead, and Karmen (Barry Joe “Boo”) Allen; granddaughter, Renae Austell; grandsons, Dustin Moorehead, and BJ Allen; great-grandson, Jackson Pigg; great-granddaughter, Addi Austell, bonus great-grandson, Bowman Stotts, bonus great-granddaughter, Lucy Stotts; and sisters-in-law, Viola Burton, and Judy Hurt.

Funeral service will be held at 12 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Joseph Stotts and Bro. Ricky Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Cemetery, Lynchburg, TN, beside her late husband. Visitation with the family will be from 10 AM until 12 PM on Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Hill Baptist Church, 10 Wiley Hollow Road, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
