Vera Joyce League Mitchell, 84, of Taft, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born August 30, 1940, in Toney, Alabama, Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William Arthur League and Nettie Reed League, as well as her husband, Thomas Ray “Buddy” Mitchell.
Joyce graduated from Sparkman High School and had a business career working in technical writing and computer science for 48 years. She worked and retired from the City of Huntsville.
Between her family life and work, she found her passion for music and gospel singing. She was a member of Cash Point Baptist Church for 59 years and loved to sing in church and with “The Cash Point Singers.”
Joyce leaves behind one brother, Harold “Hal” League, three children, Kimberly Mitchell (Victor) McKoy, Karla Mitchell Broadhead, and Art Mitchell, eight grandchildren: Heather Gray, Hannah Gray Faulkner, Holly Gray, Julia (Nathan) Clark, Mitchell Workman, William “Will” (Anna) Workman, Alex Mitchell, and Laura Mitchell, two great-grandchildren, Roma Gray Faulkner and Tatum Rae Workman, as well as several nieces and nephews.
There will be a Visitation held for Mrs. Mitchell at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. A Chapel Service is scheduled to follow visitation with service time beginning at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Blanche Cemetery. Bro. Derrick Moose will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Cash Point Baptist Church at 1994 Ardmore Hwy. Ardmore, Tennessee 38449.
Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
