James Thomas Hammack was born on May 12, 1937, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, the son of the late Dewey and Alta Barkley Hammack.
On May 18, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ola Marie Skelton.
James retired from the United States Army National Guard, where he served his country honorably.
He was a member of House of Praise Church in Waynesboro, Tennessee. In his spare time, James enjoyed farming and hunting.

James is survived by his wife, Ola Marie Skelton Hammack; sons, James Elvis Hammack and his wife Ilien, and Christopher Thomas Hammack; daughter, Marilyn Marie Hammack Green and her husband Greg; brothers, Paul Hammack and his wife Margaret, John Hammack and his wife Ruby; sister, Mary Hammack; grandchildren, Andrea Marie Green Goodloe and her husband Greg, James Allen Green, Christopher James Hammack and his wife Jessica, Amanda Lynn Boyter and her husband Corey, Samantha Marie White and her husband Jake, and James Roque Hammack and his wife Holly; great grandchildren, Gregory Goodloe, Aiden Hammack, Harlee Marie Daniel, Weston Daniel, Teagen Hammack, Lennox White, Layla Boyter, and Everly Hammack.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Troy Hammack and Willie David Hammack; and one sister, Juanita Howell.
Pallbearers include James Allen Green, Christopher Hammack, James Roque Hammack, Gregory Goodloe III, Aiden Hammack, and Jake White. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Whitwell and Greg Goodloe.
