Gordon “Butch” Foster, Jr., 80, of Pisgah, Alabama, passed away on April 23, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on October 29, 1944, in Scottsboro, Alabama, and lived a life filled with love, service, and passion.
Butch dedicated 27 years to teaching, shaping the minds of countless students with his knowledge and compassion. As a Church of Christ minister for over 50 years, he devoted his life to serving others, offering guidance and support to his congregation and community. Butch’s faith was the cornerstone of his life, and he was always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.
A lover of bluegrass music, Butch also enjoyed playing several instruments himself. His passion for music was matched only by his commitment to the community, where he spent many years involved in Dixie Softball. In recognition of his dedication, Butch was inducted into the Dixie Softball Hall of Fame in 2015.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Martha; his son, Kevin (Rebecca) Foster of Fairview, TN; his daughter, Susan (Craig) Jones of Flowery Branch, GA; and five beloved grandchildren: Junah Jones, Annabelle Foster, Lincoln Jones, Emma Foster, and Isla Foster. He is also survived by loving sisters and brothers- in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Kathleen Campbell Foster, and his brother, Tim Foster.
Butch’s legacy will live on through his family, his community, and the many lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.
A celebration of life will be held at Scottsboro Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26, at 1pm with visitation from 11-1. Burial will follow in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either St Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Ronald McDonald House Charities in Butch’s name.
