Ed “Punkin” McKinney, age 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Saks, Alabama, on April 18, 2025.

Born and raised in Saks, Ed proudly attended Saks High School before going on to serve his country in the United States Navy as a corpsman. After his military service, he continued his education at a technical college, becoming a skilled Electrical Engineer.

Throughout his career, Ed developed lasting relationships with those he served, turning clients into lifelong friends. He spent many years supporting and servicing local businesses with his expertise. He later retired from the Anniston Army Depot, where he was respected for his dedication and the friendships he formed. Even after retirement, Ed continued to lend a hand and share his skills with others whenever he was needed.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Twana McKinney of Anniston, AL; his daughter, Kelly McKinney Thrasher of Anniston, AL; two granddaughters, Madison Bean (Cody) of Pleasant Valley, AL, and Cassidy Amason (Caleb) of Lineville, AL; and five beloved great-grandchildren, Dakoda Bean, Jaxon Bean, Hudson Bean, Millie Amason, and Merritt Amason. He is also survived by his brothers, Clark McKinney, Mark McKinney (Kaye), and Terry McKinney (Debbi); and his favorite sister, Dawn Hobbs (Jim); along with many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orbie Dean Spurlin and Ernest Ed McKinney; his stepfather, Jesse Spurlin; his son, Jonathon Scott McKinney; and his brother, Douggo McKinney and wife, Lisa McKinney.

Ed “Punkin” McKinney will be remembered as a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He carried himself with quiet strength, a generous heart, and a sharp wit that brought comfort and laughter to those around him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The life of Mr. McKinney will be honored through a Memorial Service on April 21, 2025. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM, with the service following at 1:00 PM. All are warmly invited to attend and pay their respects.
