Charles Michael “Mike” Medlin, lovingly known as “Big Mike” to so many, passed away suddenly on April 8, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Born and raised in Huntsville, Mike graduated from Buckhorn High School and carried with him a strong work ethic, quiet strength, and an unwavering dedication to the people he loved. He was the most caring, loyal, and giving man, always putting others before himself, no matter the circumstances. If you looked up “devoted husband, father, and friend,” you’d find Mike’s name right there.

For many years, Mike worked at Leidos in Huntsville, where he not only found purpose in his work but also formed meaningful friendships with coworkers. He truly enjoyed what he did and who he did it with.

Mike married the love of his life, Melissa Conner Medlin, on March 18, 2000, and just recently surprised her with a romantic weekend getaway to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Their love story was full of laughter, adventure, and deep devotion, a beautiful example of true partnership.

A man of many talents and passions, Mike loved the outdoors. Whether he was grilling, hiking, lifting weights, or working in the yard, he was in his element. He found joy in simple things, and he made sure the people around him felt seen, safe, and loved. He was intelligent, levelheaded, kind, and always the first to step in and help anyone in need.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Charles Donald (Don) Medlin, and his uncle, Homer (Buddy) Carter. He is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa; their son Taylor; his mother, Linda Medlin; sister, Vickie Griffin; niece, Kyleigh Jones (Chris); nephew, Andrew Jackson Griffin; and aunt, Betty Carter. He also leaves behind a great niece, Riverleigh Ann Jones, extended family, many close friends, coworkers, and all those who were blessed to know and love him.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Phillip McGee of Clearview Cancer Institute, Dr. Heather Haley of Huntsville Renal Clinic, and the incredible doctors and nurses who cared for Mike during his time at Huntsville Hospital.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home (2320 Bob Wallace Avenue), followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Family and friends are then invited to a Celebration of Life from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Stone Event Center at Campus 805 (2620 Clinton Avenue West).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that Mike deeply believed in.
