Larry Dale Thompson, 78, was born June 13th, 1948, in Tennessee to Georgia Mae (Reyer) Thompson and Daniel D. Thompson. He passed from this life surrounded by the love of his family.
Larry grew up in the North Alabama area and attended Ardmore High School, where he excelled in football. He was honored with All-County and All-Region recognition as both an offensive and defensive lineman.
After attending John C. Calhoun Community College, Larry began a long and dedicated career. He worked for 15 years at Monsanto, now known as Solutia, before continuing his career at TVA Browns Ferry. He retired from TVA at the age of 62 while also working part-time at Walmart. Even after retirement, Larry remained a hard worker, spending another 15 years working part-time at the Athens, Alabama Walmart.
In 1970, Larry married the love of his life, Delores Hogan. Together, they built a life filled with love and family. They welcomed their son, Edric, in 1974. Larry and Delores were members of the Marion Street Church of Christ in Athens, Alabama.
Larry will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, his love of football, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through his family and all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia Mae and Daniel D. Thompson.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delores Thompson; his son, Edric Thompson of Baltimore, Maryland; his brother, Jackie Thompson (Vicki) of Lebanon, Tennessee; his sisters, Sandra Zirbel of Athens, Alabama, and Debbie Bailey (Sam) of Opelika, Alabama; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Limestone County for the excellent and compassionate end-of-life care provided to Larry and his family.
