Alice Mitchell Wasson Profile PhotoAlice Mitchell Wasson, a vibrant soul born on December 6, 1939, in Selmer, Tennessee. As the cherished daughter of James Sherrold and Cleo Evelyn Fulghum Mitchell, she cherished her roots in the small town that shaped her early years.

A member of the Selmer High School class of ’57, Alice found her passion on the basketball court, where her competitive spirit shone brightly.

On December 1, 1959, she was united in marriage to Joseph Wasson, embarking on a journey filled with love and shared dreams.

Alice was not just a wife; she was a dynamo of life. She thrived in the world of aerobics, enjoyed tennis matches, and occasionally played a round of golf.

However, her heart was truly at home at the family cabin in Pickwick, a cherished retreat where memories were woven with laughter, love, and the joyous presence of her family including her granddaughter and her precious friends whom she loved as her own. She delighted in every moment spent with her beloved family, including her bonus grandchildren – each treasured memory adding to her legacy.

Endlessly warm and approachable, Alice had a unique ability to connect with everyone she met, earning affection as the one who “talked a lot.” Her penchant for laughter and her zest for life made her a beacon of positivity, drawing people to her like moths to a flame.

On April 6, 2025, this remarkable woman departed this life in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of love and connection. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Dr. Joseph Wasson of Memphis, TN; two sons, David Bryan Wasson and Christopher Bryan Wasson both of Memphis, TN; her granddaughter, Natalie Alexandra Wasson of Memphis, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wasson was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Anderson Wasson; a brother, James Warren Mitchell.

Alice’s life was enriched by the many friendships she cultivated and the bonds she created, and she will be lovingly remembered. May her memory continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind, celebrating the joy of connection, the power of laughter, and the beauty of family love.
