Mary June Hammond, age 82, of Fayetteville, Tennessee passed away Sunday.
Mary was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She married a Baptist minister, Charles Hammond, and together they raised a family of 4 boys and 2 girls. Eventually they moved to Huntsville, Alabama and resided there until 2014. Mary was a devoted wife and tireless caregiver to her severely autistic son. She fully supported her husband’s ministry until he was no longer able to serve as a pastor . At that point, Mary moved to Fayetteville, Tennessee to be near him as he was being cared for at Elk River Rehab. She was at his side almost everyday for five years. Her health began to fail after his death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edwin Hammond; father, L. C. Harred; mother, Mary L. Harred; sons, Carl Edwin Hammond, and Cory Ethan Hammond; daughter-in-law, Teresa Prince Hammond; brother, G. W. Harred; sisters, Alice Harred Simmons and Jean Harred Brollier.
Surviving are daughter, Melissa (Steve) Elliott; son, Eric (Kay) Hammond; son , Chris (Kathy) Hammond; daughter, Myra (Mike) Blankenship; daughter-in-law, Anita Wheeler Hammond; and brother , Jackie (Pat) Harred. Additionally, she had 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Winfred Stayton and Jimmy Henderson officiating. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Elliott, Casey Hammond, Seth Hammond, Shane Hammond, Dylan Yarbrough, and Caleb Todd.
Internment will be in Moon Cemetery.
