William Carter Reid, 87, departed this life on March 29, 2025.
His family will receive family and friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. His memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Grant Azbell officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Carter was a true believer in Christ and His sacrifice for our sin. He was an active charter member of the Magnolia Church of Christ family. His major interest was benevolence. He worked with the benevolence committee at Magnolia and was a supporter of The Healing Place. He served on the board of directors at Mars Hill Bible School and was a row crop and cattle farmer. Carter was born and raised in Cherokee, Alabama. In 1956 he graduated from Cherokee Vocational High School. His major interest was football. He lettered four years, played center, and was selected as the All Tri-County Center in 1956. Carter married his high school sweetheart, Glenda Barnett. They were married 68 years and 7 months. They were blessed with two children, a son, Patrick Scott, and a daughter, Rebecca Elise. He was preceded in death by his daughter; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Carter Reid; his father, William Elbert Reid; his grandfather, Arthur Ramath Carter; his grandmother, Rebecca Carter; and his grandfather, Will Reid.
Carter is survived by his wife, Glenda, of Florence; son, Scott, of Rock City Falls, NY; granddaughter, Katie Reid, of Glens Falls, NY; grandson, Will (Kate), and great-grandson, Max, of Needham, MA.
