Anna Margaret King Brent, cherished mother and grandmother, took the Lord’s Hand on Saturday, February 15th, 2025. Ann was born in Sontag, MS, on Sept 11, 1934, to the delight of her parents, Malcolm and Myrtice King and older brother, Robert.
She graduated from Mississippi Women’s College, married Floyd Brent, Jr, and went on to start a family and impactful career in education. She became a dedicated educator at Overstreet Elementary School in Starkville MS, shaping young minds into the contributing members of society she knew they could be. After completing her Masters, she began working in administration in Greenville, MS, making sure that teachers and students had what they needed to be successful.
A perfect day included a Mississippi State football game or a Hallmark movie, sweet tea and fun conversation with friends. Some of Ann’s best days were spent on beautiful Scott Field or at the Hump. She was an active member of the MSU Tip Off Club and the MSU Quarterback Club.
Ann loved her church family. She much enjoyed adding her voice to the choir at Starkville Baptist Church for years. It was a highlight of her week to be part of such a wonderful group. She also enjoyed working with the Korean Mission group at the BSU, teaching young women how to walk more closely with the Lord and as a Bible Drill instructor and mentor. She loved young people and wanted them to know Scripture, and as her Mom had taught her as a devout Sunday School Teacher for many years, she led as a loving Sunday School teacher.
She enjoyed her friends, family and customers as a Mary Kay Consultant, taking care to help others shine beautifully with guidance and instruction.
Ann was known for her acceptance of others, allowing them to be themselves without judgment. She looked out for and brought out the best in those around her. She cared about making sure others felt seen and heard, and was first in line to help new residents get settled in the assisted living facility she enjoyed for several years.
One of her favorite Bible verses offers strength to those who mourn her loss:
“Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Victor Brent, Jr. She is survived by her children, Mike Brent & wife Beverly & Suzzane (Brent) & husband Dan Skinner, and her grandchildren, Ashley & Brandon Skinner and McKenzie (Brent) Sumrall.
There will be a graveside service this Friday, 2/21, 11am at Strong Hope Church in Stronghope, MS.
In lieu of flowers, please send any donations to:
