Janet DeClouet Brooks Whiteside, age 87, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on February 12.
Janet was born in Lafayette, Louisiana to Thomas and Jeanne DeClouet. She earned a degree in Secretarial Science from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. She worked for several years before meeting Raymond Eugene Brooks on the beach in Panama City. In 1965 they married and she moved to Huntsville. They remained happily married until his death in 1994. In 2002 she married Thomas Whiteside and remained happily married until his death in 2014. She was very fortunate to have two great men with whom to share her life.
Janet is survived by her son, Stephen, of Huntsville; her beloved grandchildren, Bryan (Emily) of Madison, Alabama and Allison of Parker, Colorado; her sisters, Carol Dillon of Houma, Louisiana and Frances Sooter of Abilene, Texas; and a great many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Jean DeClouet Duhon and Merrill DeClouet Dore.
Janet lived in the same home from the time she first married until her death, 60 years. She was the queen of her neighborhood. Her greatest enjoyment was sitting outside and visiting with all the people going by, whether they were just passing or intentionally headed her way. She was surrounded by many wonderful people who cared for her and provided for her and loved on her in so many ways for which her family has no way to properly convey their appreciation. Special thanks go to Adam Morgan and Preeti Francis and family for treating her as one of their own.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Monday, February 17, at 5:00. Preceding the mass please come visit the family between 3:00 and 5:00. Her Interment of Ashes will be conducted at a later date. Laughlin Service Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Development Fund. (625 Airport Rd, Huntsville, AL, 35802)
