Funeral services for Albert C. Baker, 67, of Lineville will be held on Thursday February 6, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Millerville Baptist Church, with Roy Johnson and Brother Chris Smith officiating. Burial with military honors to follow in the Millerville Community Cemetery.
Sgt. Baker was born in Selma, Alabama, moved to Amarillo, TX then to Lineville. He attended Lineville High School before enlisting in the Alabama Army National Guard at Fort Lee, Virginia. He served over 23 years with the 1209th Quartermaster Unit in Wetumpka which included being ordered to active duty in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Albert spent most of his life in Clay County, was the Maintenance Supervisor at the Clay County Hospital for several years, member of Millerville Baptist Church, an avid Alabama Fan, and lover of good BBQ, cutting grass and cooking. He would often be seen with his fury and protective friend “Poncho”.
He is survived by two daughters; Tammy Childers (Keith) of Oxford, and Heather Nash (Teryn) of Anniston, granddaughter; Gabrielle Robershaw, step-granddaughter; Rozalyn Nash, his sister; Dorothy Dickson of Guin, and his brother; George Baker of Wetumpka, also his special friend Cathy Karr of Coleta Valley and his special fury friend “Poncho”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Douglas Buford Baker and Ressie Jewel Dingler Baker, one sister; Deborah Baker, and two brothers; Dwight and Earl Baker.
Pallbearers will be James Garrett, Gary Gossett, Jason Mattox, Stephen Young, Robert Watson, and Jerre “Bubba” Mitchell.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Wednesday February 5, 2025 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. and for one hour prior to services at the church.
