Vera Margaret Collum Hammer, age 96, of Albertville, Alabama, passed away on April 17, 2024, at her residence. She was born on September 7, 1927, to the late Willis and Marie Collum. Vera was a pillar of strength within her community, known for her unwavering dedication to her faith and her profound love for her family and friends.
For 48 years, Vera was a cherished member of Albertville First United Methodist Church, where her presence and devotion uplifted those around her. She found great joy in expressing her faith through music, and she could often be found singing in the choir, her voice harmonizing with others to create a beautiful symphony of praise.
Vera is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Fred Hammer, who shared in her joys and sorrows throughout their enduring partnership. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her 20 nieces and nephews, whose lives were enriched by her presence and guidance.
In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Helen Virginia Collum Lewis, Catherine Collum Stabler, and Sudie Francis Collum Lott, along with four nieces and nephews. Their memories will continue to be cherished by those who knew and loved them.
A funeral service honoring Vera’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Albertville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Adams and Bro. Donald Baugh, officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the church, beginning at 12:00 pm, allowing loved ones to come together in remembrance and support.
Pallbearers, entrusted with the duty of accompanying Vera to her final resting place at Memory Hill Cemetery, include Keith Lott, Andrew Hammer, Robert Hammer Jr., John Hall Jr., Mike Hall, and Brian Cadotte. Their presence symbolizes the respect and admiration Vera earned throughout her lifetime.
