Mildred Lorraine Leach Higgs – Obituary

Mildred Lorraine Leach Higgs, 88, of Sheffield, Alabama passed away on April 9, 2013. She was born December 24, 1924 in Florence, Alabama to Hattie and James Leach. She was a graduate of Coffee High School in 1942, and of Baroness Ehrlanger School of Nursing in 1946. After working as a polio nurse, she began her career with TVA and became their first occupational nurse practitioner. She retired as regional head nurse after serving over 25 years. Mildred was a long time member of Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ, and was active in the Associated Women’s Organization of Mars Hill Bible School. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Robert Higgs.

She is survived by her daughters Ann Higgs Stowe (Bill) and Fran Higgs Craddock (Roger), her grandchildren Christopher Stowe, Rachel Stowe Scarsi (Giuliano), Laurel Stowe Burnette (David), Linly Stowe, Sarah Craddock Moore (Nick), Anne Craddock Wynn (Hank), and step-granddaughter Joy Kelly (Steve).

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 11 am to 12 pm at Annapolis Avenue Church of Christ, with service to follow.
