James William Jack MastersonJames William Jack Masterson, age 85, of Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, February 07, 2024, at Helen Keller Hospital.

Jack was a member of UAW Ford Motor Company, worked as a tool clerk at TVA, and was a member of the Newburg Lodge Masons.  He was a member of Franklin County Sports Hall of Fame and held the scoring record in basketball at Russellville from 1955 to 1976.  He was an avid carver and whittler and was featured on the Paul Harvey Radio Show for his woodwork.  Jack was a retired farmer who loved gardening and sharing with his neighbors.  His favorite pastime was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Greg Masterson (Kathy), Tim Masterson, Jeff Masterson (Leah), Joey Masterson (Wendy), Lori Masterson Malone (David); grandchildren, Erin Singletary (Jack), Julie Russ (Matthew), Jill Baker (Luke), Tate Malone, Grant Masterson (Aspen), Abbie Malone; great-grandchildren, Gabby Singletary, Charlotte Russ, Olivia Russ, Shepard Masterson, and Blake Peebles; sister, Methel Stringer; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Fay May Masterson; grandson, Rhett Masterson; parents, Tommy & Sadie (Stewart) Masterson; and sister, Syble Lamar.

The visitation will be 10:00 – 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Spry Memorial Chapel of Russellville.   The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon in the chapel with Bro. Bobby Amos officiating the service.  Due to the weather, the burial will be held at 2:00 Monday, February 12, 2024, at Franklin Memory Gardens.

The pallbearers will be Greg Masterson, Tim Masterson, Jeff Masterson, Joey Masterson, David Malone, Tate Malone, Grant Masterson, Jack Singletary, Matthew Russ, and Luke Baker.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Helen Keller Palliative Care, nurses and staff of J.W. Sommer Rehabilitation, Dr. Vacik and Dr. Boorgu for your love and care of our father.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to United Cerebral Palsy of Northwest Alabama or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Spry Memorial Chapel assisted the family.
