Funeral service for Mr. Thurman Smith age 93 of Hartselle will be Monday, April 8, 2013 at 3:00pm at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pearl Jenkins officiating with burial in the Hartselle Memory Gardens Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith died on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at his home. He was born January 28, 1920 in Lawrence County to Will and Trannie Dutton Smith. He was a member and Elder at Roundtop Community Church in Falkville. He was a member of the Senior’s Sunday School Class, served in World War II in the Air Force Division, stationed at Whitehorse Air Force Base in the Yukon Territory. He retired from Monsanto in March of 1984, He was a former member of the Hartselle Lions Club and was well known as a man of his word and a valued friend to many. He was preceded in death by three loving sons-in-law; Larry Clemons, Stanley Smith and Jimmy Thompson, by a brother; Elvis Smith and by two sisters; Ethel and Thelma Steele.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Opal Johnson Smith, five daughters; Linda K. Clemons of Danville, Ann Smith of Falkville, Alice Nace (Larry) of Hartselle, Bonnie Thompson of Falkville and Connie Pope (Brent) of Minor Hill, TN. Nine Grandchildren and seven Great-Grandchildren
Grandsons: Jay Bell, Scott Murphy, Ross Murphy, Stan Smith, Alan Thompson and Great Grandson: Gage Stutts will serve a Pallbearers.
Granddaughter’s Marianne Smith, Tammy Watts, Pamela Pope and Nikki Bell will serve as honorary pallbearers
