Betty Jane Anderton Maxwell, age 95, passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at her home in Winchester. Born on June 7, 1928, she was the only daughter of the late Fred Marion and Gladys Ida Hicks Anderton of Winchester. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by husband of forty-nine years, Thomas Warren Maxwell; her brothers, Charles Marion Anderton, Fred Hicks Anderton, and Robert Parks Anderton. Survivors include her children, Nancy Jane Maxwell (Stephen Kay) Clark of Nashville, Tennessee, Larry Thomas (Susie) Maxwell of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Tappy (Tim) Bailey of Winchester; two grandchildren, John Maxwell (Alli) Bailey of Winchester, and Grace Anderton Bailey of Smyrna, Tennessee; and two great-grandchildren, Oliver and Ellie. Betty Jane was a long-time member of the Winchester First United Methodist Church, as were her parents and grandparents. Betty was a graduate of Central High School in Winchester, Class of 1946, and she attended the University of Tennessee. The family wishes to recognize with appreciation the devoted care and love of her dear friends, Pat Pechacek and Darlene Williams. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Winchester First United Methodist Church or Wings of Hope.
