Josephine “Jo” Lackey Kelly, 86, departed this life on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born on September 9, 1936 to the late Marshall and Addie Swindle Lackey. She married the love of her life, JC Kelly, on Dec. 25, 1953, a marriage of almost 68 years. Josephine loved tending her flowers and watching the red birds. She also enjoyed baking cookies, but most importantly she loved her grands and great-grands. She was an assistant teacher at Plantersville Elementary School for many years and attended First Baptist Church in Plantersville. She will be missed by all of her family and friends.
A service celebrating her life will be held at 1 PM Thursday, June 22, 2023 from the Sadie Holland Memorial Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Danny Balint officiating. Private burial will follow in the Plantersville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 AM-service time only. She is survived by her two sons, Gary Kelly (Susie) of Shannon; Mark Kelly (Bridget) of Plantersville; 4 grandchildren, John Scott Kelly (Margaret), Dusty Kelly (Lane), Luke Kelly (Mandy), Cody Scott (Molly); 5 great grandchildren, Kyle, Mary Clark, Betsy, John Henry Kelly and Hannah Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, JC Kelly on November 21, 2021; a daughter, Sandra Jo Kelly on June 19, l984; brothers, Clem and Richard Lackey.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
