A life well lived may best describe Helen Elizabeth Burton Hart who died Thursday evening, June 15, 2023, in Jackson. She was born January 30, 1933, one of three children to the late William Harvey and Virginia Lee Hale Burton in Ohatchee, Alabama and moved to Lexington in 1978.
Throughout Mrs. Hart’s life it was evident that she was gifted in her every task or assignment. Whether it was serving as an executive secretary for several companies in Birmingham or Nashville, or ending her long career as crew leader of our local Dairy Queen, she always succeeded. She took great pride in being a thirty-five year member of the Eastern Star and had the honor of being a Worthy Matron for two of those years. In addition, she was a long time member of the Woodmen of the World and even served as president. For her hobbies Mrs. Hart was very creative, loved to craft and was an avid gardener. She loved her flowers.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Morris and her husband David of Nashville, a son, Robert Metcalfe of Lexington, five grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and her sister, Jean Burk of Talladega, Alabama. Preceding her in death was her son, Gregory Watkins and sisters, Doris Saunders and Mable Brooks.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, June 24th in the chapel of Pafford Funeral Home with interment following at Sand Ridge Cemetery. The Hart family will receive friends from 11:00 am until service time on Saturday. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to either St Jude or the ASPCA.
