Hollis Glenn Hester, age 88, of Tuscumbia, died Monday, June 12, 2023, after an extended illness. Visitation will be Saturday from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will immediately follow in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Jeff Newton officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Mr. Hester was born in the Rock Creek Community on December 11, 1934, but lived most of his life in Tuscumbia. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was retired from Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation after 25 years of service. As a young man he was a member of Mountain Springs Baptist Church, after marriage he became a member of Highland Park Baptist Church where he raised his family and later became a member of Valdosta Baptist Church.
Glenn was preceded in death by her wife, Betty Jo Tapp Hester; parents, Okey Alverson and Virgie Viola Hester; and siblings, Vera Lee Hester, Verlon Thomas, Hershel Hester, Dorothy Vernon, and Betty Lou Hallmark.
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Mitchell and husband, Mike; sister, Una Watson and husband, Fay; brother-in-law, Dale Tapp; sister-in-law, Glenda Brown; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Jerry Williams, Dr. Narasimha Boorgu, Dr. Roy Barco, Dr. Lyn Ridgeway, Dr. John Karr, and the staffs of the Cottage of the Shoals and Helen Keller Memorial Hospital’s 3rd and 4th floors.
