Billy Joe Smith, age 74, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10am Tuesday, June 13th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Bro. Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jackson Towe, Matt Ellis, Jesse Smith, James Osborne, Hershel Smith, and Aaron Smith serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Monday, June 12th and again from 9am until time of the service at 10am Tuesday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Smith was born August 30, 1948 in Springfield, to the late Hershel James and Hazel B. Proctor Smith. He was a Systems Analyst with the TN Department of Revenue.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a son, Larry Joe Smith; brothers, James P. Smith, George “Pat” Smith, Charlie Smith, and Dennis Smith; and a sister, Reatha “Polly” Dixon.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn Smith; son, Billy Coleman; daughter, Sharon Coleman; 5 grandchildren, Jackson Towe, Olivia Walker, Aaron Smith, Dustin Smith, and Natalie Smith; 3 great grandchildren, Lenox, Devon, and Brenley; and brothers, John B. “Peck” (Gisela) Smith, and Ewin “Randy” (Reba) Smith.
Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
