Doris Jean Loggins Walker Doris Jean Loggins Walker passed away on February 14, 2023, surrounded by her family. Doris was born on June 6, 1941, in Piney Chapel, Alabama. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jimmy Burl Walker, her father William Wesley Loggins Jr., her mother Margaret Leona Pirtle Loggins, and her infant brother Milton Wesley Loggins. She is survived by her children: Cynthia Walker Leonard (Edward Quinn) and Jimmy Britt Walker (Grace Kathryn) and her grandchildren: James Walker Leonard, Margaret Jean Leonard, Miriam Elizabeth Walker, William Henry Walker, and Leona Grace Walker. She is also survived by her sister Anne Loggins Shannon (the late Carlos Shannon), her brother Kenneth Wade Loggins (Kay Malone Loggins), and her brother-in-law Ben Walker, as well as her nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

After graduating from Athens High School in 1959, Doris received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Athens College on June 9, 1963, and began teaching at Piney Chapel Junior High School. Continuing her education by graduating with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Athens College in 1969, Doris was a proud educator and successful guidance counselor for 33 years until her retirement in 1996. Her career included opportunities at Piney Chapel Junior High School, Clements Elementary School, Johnson Junior High School, Reid Elementary School, and Owens Elementary School. Doris also was a 50-year member and former President of Delta Kappa Gamma (professional society for women educators), active member of Alabama Educators Association (AEA), and President of Athens-Limestone Education Retirees Association.

Doris was a lifelong devoted member of Ephesus Church of Christ. She was an avid baker, loved to travel, read, and spend time with her family on Elk River. On Sunday, February 19, 2023, Doris’ service will include a visitation beginning at Noon and a celebration of life at 2 pm at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with interment at Roselawn Cemetery to follow. The pallbearers include: Alan Loggins, Melvin Loggins, Joe Darmer, Chuck Richter, Westley Richter, and Logan Shannon.
